Rules and Regulations

  1. Entries close March 1, 2012. Entries can be submitted electronically at ShowYourHorse.com or by using a paper entry form. Entry fees are $25.00 per class until March 1, after that they are $30.00 per class.

  2. Stalls can also be reserved electronically or by paper entry. Stalls will be $55 per stall. Tack stalls are available. Horses can arrive Wednesday March 2 at 12:00 (noon).

  3. Shavings can be ordered in advance and are $9.00 per bag. Hay & Straw are also available for $6.00 per bale. You can order your supplies electronically.
    Please remember that you must order your shavings in advance to make sure they are in place when you arrive.

  4. All horses must have a negative Coggins test performed within 12 months of the show. All horses must have current health papers issued within 30 days of the show. The EIA test information must be completely recorded on the health certificate. Health papers must be brought to the show office in order to pick up back numbers.

  5. **It is not necessary to qualify on Saturday in order to compete on Sunday.

  6. ALL HORSES may be shown in either a snaffle bridle with a martingale or a full bridle. Junior and Open Horses to be judged on performance, quality and future show horse potential. Blinker hoods will be permitted in the ring. Prohibited devices in the ring include any action device including stretchers and/or chains.

  7. Junior Horse - 4 years of age & under.

  8. Open classes are for horses of any age with no restrictions as to the age or status of the riders.

  9. Riders competing in Classes 15&16 must be current Junior Members of the UPHA. Please check in the show office for more information.

Academy Division: General rules

  1. Academy classes are open to any breed of horse or pony ("horse"). Stallions are prohibited.
  2. Horses must be regularly used for lessons in a public or private (family owned) program. Horses MUST display the characteristics and manners of a horse capable of being used in a lesson environment. The quality of the horse is not to be a determining factor in the class.
  3. In ALL Academy classes, only the rider is to be judged.
  4. SAFETY in the Academy division is paramount. The judge has the right to excuse a horse that is considered unsafe or is endangering the other riders.
  5. Show management has the right to ask all trainers, attendants, and spectators to adhere to basic rules of safety with no whips, plastic bags and/or noise devices in the warm up ring or the show ring areas. This includes the use of whips or any other attention getting devices when riders are lined up.
  6. Riders who have been judged in a regular performance class at any show man not return to the academy division.
  7. Riders who have cantered in a class are not eligible for Walk/Trot Academy Classes.

Academy and Show Practice

  1. Horses are prohibited from wearing any artificial devices/appointments while in the show ring; this includes tail switches, and/or tail braces, or action devices. Tongue ties may be used, lip cards are not allowed. Hooves may or may not be blacked. Hunt Seat horses are not to be braided. Blinkers may be used.
  2. Horses can be bridled with a snaffle, snaffle with martingale, snaffle with German Martingale, snaffle with draw reins, Full Bridle with Pelham or Kimberwick Style bits. Horses are to be saddled appropriately to the division they are entered in.
  3. Horse can wear protective boots and/or leg wraps only if necessary for the safety of the horse. Weighted boots and/or action devices will not be allowed.
  4. Gloves, riding boots, and jodhpurs are appropriate attire for the academy or show practice rider. Jackets and derbies are prohibited. Attire with farm logos and/or farm names are allowed. Safety Helmets are the only acceptable headgear In Western Academy the rider must NOT user western show apparel (western hat, chaps or western show vest and jackets). Black or blue jeans are acceptable in the western classes, but not in hunt seat or saddle seat. In Hunt Seat Academy riders are to wear breeches or jodhpurs with paddock boots. HELMETS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL CLASSES WITH RIDERS UNDER THE AGE OF 18!
  5. All participants in any class in Academy must have a suitable saddle with feet in stirrups.
  6. As a safety consideration, all handlers/headers in any Academy Class for any horse or rider must be 18 years of age or older.
